an earthly intervention—
"An Earthly Intervention" is a series of works created for a digital drawing course project. We were asked to create altered landscapes, considering land use and the ever-changing nature of our surroundings. My work plays on the concept of "divine intervention," seeking to unify secular and non-secular perspectives through the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Earth. Regardless of religious belief, nature itself embodies an omniscient and awe-inspiring force, a higher power that everyone can recognize. In this series, I frame my relationship with the natural world as a conversation between myself and the land. By personifying nature itself, I aim to reflect the deep connection between humanity and the environment, fostering a sense of familiarity and comfort. The central panel features flowers with feminine qualities. Flowers resonate with my personal experiences with femininity. They symbolize early girlhood, the journey of being an "early bloomer," navigating the duality of maturity and newfound feminine energy - both a precious gift and a challenge. This theme of early maturity intertwines with the series' exploration of transformation, both in the landscapes we encounter and those I've created. Maturation itself is a journey that mirrors nature's processes, a universal experience shared by all. Flowers and trees embody both beauty and sacrifice. When I walk among trees, the wind howls, and they seem to whisper in the breeze, yet remain unanswered. This series serves as my attempt to respond to them, acknowledging their presence and the silent dialogues that unfold between nature and ourselves.
