"subpar—superb" is a concept for a unisex clothing brand I created for fun. I got the idea for it on a random afternoon after thinking about the absurdities of the English language. How extremely similar some words sound but with vastly different meanings—subpar/ superb? Or how something awful is a bad thing, yet being in awe of something inflicts emotions of wonder and admiration?
I recited the phrase "subpar—do better next time" in my head. It's a phrase I imagine dryly illuminates one's computer screen whilst playing a video game and their character fails their mission. There is something so humorous, amusing, and appealing in the irony of wearing a shirt that reads "subpar", or "subpar—do better nxt time".
This brand is the socially acceptable way to let people know they may be falling a bit short on the ambiance or they're not quite meeting the mark of the atmosphere. It's chill though you can always do better next time.
"subapr-superb" also confronts our evolving self-perceptions and the somber veil of adulthood that drapes over us. It seems as I age, life grows more serious the playfulness of the world fades. "subpar—superb" aims to revive this lost light-heartedness, identifying and connecting those who still relish in the playful aura of life's highs and lows and inject humor into everyday life situations.
Consider the time I needed to run into the market to grab exactly three items: sparkling water, a six-pack of mini cherry Cokes, and peanut butter. Foolishly deciding I didn't need a cart, my sparkling waters went rogue and exploded everywhere. Standing there amidst the chaos chasing after the waters as they rolled down the aisles would have been far more epic if I had been wearing a "subpar—do better nxt time shirt".
Subpar is a lifestyle and a club of people that just get it.
or you can tell your mom it's just a motivational t-shirt brand, we always strive for the best, nothing less!
